Reno, NV — Veterinary practices per 100,000 residents: 18.6, above the 9.8 elsewhere
We measured 50 veterinary practices in Reno serving 268,959 residents, and 4 findings stood out against the other markets we measure.
What we set out to measure
Where can an owner get a pet seen, and what happens after hours?
Every veterinary practice below comes from public licensing and business records, counted whether or not it appears in this site’s directory. The findings are what the numbers came back with, not a view we formed first and then looked for support for.
Veterinary practices per 100,000 residents: 18.6
That is 8.8 higher than the 9.8 typical of the 4 other Nevada markets we measure.
Veterinary practices counted here divided by the town's own population, expressed per 100,000 residents. Veterinary practices are counted where they sit, and people routinely drive to the next town, so a town centre surrounded by suburbs reads high and the suburbs read low. Read it as how concentrated veterinary practices are in this town, not how easy it is for residents to be seen.
Veterinary practices with a website: 64%
That is 22 points above the 42% typical of the 32 markets we measure nationwide.
Share of veterinary practices with a working website on record, out of the veterinary practices whose contact details we have checked. Measured over 32 of 50.
Open Saturday or Sunday: 35%
That is 39 points below the 74% typical of the 4 markets we measure nationwide.
Share of veterinary practices whose published hours include Saturday or Sunday, out of the veterinary practices whose hours we have on record. Measured over 12 of 34. We could check 68% of Reno veterinary practices for this.
Open past 6pm on a weekday: 18%
That is 6 points below the 24% typical of the 4 markets we measure nationwide.
Share of veterinary practices whose published hours run past 6pm on at least one weekday, out of the veterinary practices whose hours we have on record. Measured over 6 of 34. We could check 68% of Reno veterinary practices for this.
What this does not tell you
- A count of practices is not a count of open appointments, and nothing here says whether a clinic is taking new patients this week.
- After-hours figures read published hours. A clinic that handles emergencies by phone without posting the hours will not show up in them.
- Animals treated and services offered come from what a practice says about itself. A blank usually means it was never stated, not that the care is unavailable.
How this was measured
- What was counted
- 50 veterinary practices with a Reno address in public licensing and business records. 50 of them meet this site’s bar to appear in the directory; the findings above are measured over all of them.
- Residents
- 268,959, US Census Bureau acs5-2023.
- Measured
- August 30, 2026. We keep every earlier measurement rather than overwriting it, so a later report can say what changed.
- How complete this is
- 82% of the measures this vertical tracks had enough coverage to report here. The rest are withheld rather than estimated, and are listed on the data page.
- Method version
